According to the Center for Disease Control, AF is the most common cardiac arrhythmia in the United States with an incidence of 2.26 million people in 2010 that is expected to increase to 12 million people by 2050 [1]. The mortality rate from AF as a primary or secondary cause of death is increasing, as is the cost burden to the healthcare system [1].
