Precision Oncology: Leveraging Cancer Genomics for Tailored Treatments

Abstract

Wanggor Berg*

Cancer is a complex and heterogeneous disease characterized by
uncontrolled cell growth and spread. Despite significant advancements in
treatment, traditional cancer therapies, such as chemotherapy and radiation,
often result in variable outcomes due to individual differences in genetics,
tumor biology, and the environment. As a result, there is an increasing shift
toward precision oncology, a personalized approach to cancer treatment that
integrates detailed genetic information from both the patient and their tumor.
Precision oncology aims to tailor therapies based on the specific genetic
alterations found within an individual's cancer cells, ensuring more effective,
targeted treatments and reducing unnecessary side effects.
