The adoption of a flexible exchange rate system since 1986 in Nigeria has made the country witnessed varying rate of the naira vis-à-vis the U.S dollar. This paper examines exchange rate volatility with ARCH model and its various extensions (GARCH, TGARCH, and EGARCH) using quarterly exchange rate series from 1986q1 to 2014q4. The impact of exchange rate volatility on non-oil exports was also examined using Error Correction Model (ECM) with two different measures of volatility. The results obtained confirm the existence of exchange rate volatility and also found a significant negative effect on non-oil export performance in Nigeria. Therefore, the Nigerian government should ensure an appropriate policy mix that not only ensures a stable and realistic exchange rate but also conducive atmosphere for production and exportation.

This paper put forward the concept of most frequently used regional currency and discovers there is a U-shape between regional trade integration and it. We choose sixteen in this paper which including all types of regional economic cooperation organisations at the national level. When the proportion of most frequently used regional currency is low, the use of this currency impedes the regional trade. But it promotes the regional trade when it passes the bottom of the U-shape. The transaction cost of the currency contributes a lot to explain this U-shape. Currency status and the political game also act as a significant role. While the proportion of the most frequently used regional currency is relatively low, using this currency is detrimental to the regional trade of the global countries.

Recent economic tools include Structural Mechanics to solve outstanding problems. Some term it Econophysics or what I call Physical Economics. With the long-standing developments in structural engineering, namely Matric or the stiffness method, it is possible to make use of this theory to form a proof for an equation that links gross domestic product (GDP) to the individual consumer. This paper presents that solution with the knowledge of the stiffness coefficient. It is important because it links macroeconomics to microeconomics, in a solution that is possible to program, especially with the data of debit transactions.
