DOI: 10.4172/2165-7920.1000e129

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) defines personality disorder as an ‘enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that derviates markedly from the expectations of the individual’s culture’, which are manifested in two or more of the following areas: cognition, affectivity, interpersonal functioning and impulsive controls.

Use of an Inhibitor of Tyrosine Kinase as a Targeted Therapy in a Case of Inoperable RCC

Alexander A Klimenko and Sergey A Ivanov

DOI: 10.4172/2165-7920.1000332

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) falls within the range of 2-3% of all oncology disorders in adults. Given the pathogenic mechanisms of RCC growth and dissemination, the disease is now actively treated by means of various types of the targeted therapy. One of the medicines available and widely used is Pazopanib which affects cancer cells in the form of inhibition of tyrosine kinase receptors. This article describes a case study of Pazopanib use in the course of treatment of inoperable RCC.

PICOT as a Dual Regulator of Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy and Inotropy

Yoram Etzion, Janet Ozer, Yaron Ishay, Gideon Sahar and Noah Isakov

The contractile function of the normal adult heart is able to adapt rapidly in response to increased systemic demand for blood supply. Moreover, the heart undergoes a growth process, known as hypertrophy, in response to increased workload. This adaptive response is aimed to augment cardiac pump function and decrease ventricular wall tension in the face of an increased workload.

Whole Body Vibration Training Lowers Serum Creatine Kinase Levels in Boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Jean K Mah, James Wong III, Angela Chiu, Barbara Ramage and Aneal Khan

DOI: 10.4172/2165-7920.1000334

We aimed to describe the effects of whole body vibration training on serum creatine kinase and motor function in two brothers with Duchenne muscular dystrophy using standardized measurements. Whole body vibration was delivered using a side-alternating vibration platform at a starting frequency of 7.5 Hz, increasing up to 20 Hz for 5 minutes three times weekly for three months. The baseline serum creatine kinase of the 7 and 10 years old boys was 33,105 U/L and 14,984 U/L. After vibration training, their levels dropped significantly, reaching a nadir of 7,383 U/L and 536 U/L respectively during treatment. There was a modest increase in their 6-minute walk distance but their overall North Star Ambulatory Assessment scores were unchanged. Whole body vibration appeared to be safe and well-tolerated. The reduction in serum creatine kinase as observed in these two boys suggests a potential benefit of brief high frequency vibration on muscle function.

Insight into Disease Processes through Studies of the Intracellular Vesicle Transport System

Noah Isakov

DOI: 10.4172/2165-7920.1000e125

Eukaryotic cells synthesize different types of molecules that are transported within the cell to discrete areas, or secreted outside of the cell, in small packages, called vesicles. The mechanism by which intracellular vesicles carrying distinct cargo molecules are delivered to specific cellular compartments, and the means by which vesicles fuse with specific organelles or the plasma membrane, to deliver their cargo, is the focus of intense investigation by many laboratories.

Who Showed Improvement of Liver Function by Continuous Positive Airway Pressure; this issue is very agonizing as with the increasing incidence of obesity and related disorders, it is thought that the number of patients with NASH will increase further and more patients with these conditions will be encountered in daily medical practice, that gives an alarming to pick up such cases and also considering that the association between OSAS and NASH remains poorly understood, which need further evaluation of such cases.
