Polypyrrole Based Electro-Conductive Cotton Yarn

Subhankar Maity and Arobindo Chatterjee

DOI: 10.4172/2165-8064.1000171

This work describes a novel method for preparing electro-conductive cotton yarn by in situ chemical polymerization of pyrrole with FeCl3 oxidant and pTSA dopant. The mean resistivity 16 Ne yarn is obtained about 182.63 KΩ/m-1 with 11.6% polypyrrole add-on. It is observed that electrical resistivity of the yarn increased linearly with increase of its length. Significant change of electrical resistivity is observed when twist and tensile strain are imparted in the yarn structure. Microscopic image analysis evidences that there is uniform distribution of polypyrrole polymer on the surface of cotton fibres. This electro-conductive yarn is found suitable for thermo-electric See beck effect.

Alternate Relationship between Single Fiber Properties and Both of Fiber Microscopic and Physical Properties

Abeer S Arafa

DOI: 10.4172/2165-8064.1000175

Current study was carried out in Cotton Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, Egypt and Textechno company labs Monchengladbach, Germany during 2013 season. The materials used in this study comprised 16 different genotypes produced by cotton research institute. In addition to, two upland cotton varieties from Sudan. Aiming to study the effect of environmental conditions, genotypes and thier interaction on each characters under study beside studyig the relationship between single fiber prroperties and bundle properties. Giza 93 variety showed the lowest micronaire, fineness and area of cross section. On contrast, it showed the highest upper half mean. Giza 87 variety exhibited the highest bundle strength, the lowest reversals number per mm and the narrowest convolution angle. As for single fiber properties. Giza 45 variety followed by Giza 87 variety exhibited the lowest single fiber linear density readings. Single fiber strength is a little bit lower than bundle strength. Giza 87 variety surpassed the other genotypes on single fiber strength. Upland cotton varieties showed the worst bundle and single fiber properties. As maturity ratio increased bundle and single fiber properties improved and vice versa. According to, the relationship between single fiber prroperties and bundle properties, there was a nearly linear relation¬ship between fiber properties and single fiber properties. After excluding the weak correlated characters 3 linear multiple regression models for single fiber tenacity, single fiber linear density and single fiber elongation were produced. Fineness and degree of thickness were the predictor variables for single fiber strength parameters. However, fiber fineness per mtex and micronaire values were the most important factors for single fiber linear density, both of them proportionate directly with single fiber linear density. While, single fiber elongation contains 7 predictors i.e. Micronaire reading, UI, area of cross section, theta, fiber strength, fiber elongation and UHM characters. Nevertheless, it showed the weakest relation, UI, area of cross section, and fiber Strength proportionate inversely with single fiber elongation. The model is not reliable enough for single fiber elongation prediction.

Ichetaonye SI, Ichetaonye DN, Adeakin OAS, Tenebe OG, Yibowei ME and Dawodu OH

DOI: 10.4172/2165-8064.1000177

The Effect of the Stitch length on the properties of plain and 1x1 rib knitted fabric was carried out. Fabrics with various stitch length determined by the stitch dial at 4, 6, 8 and 10 were knitted using the flat bed machine for plain knitted fabric and the v-bed machine for 1x1 rib knitted fabric separately. The knitted fabrics with stitch length (Plain) 0.67 cm, 0.84 cm, 0.86 cm, 0.94 cm and also (1×1 Rib) 0.8 cm, 1.04 cm, 1.06 cm and 1.08 cm were tested separately for linear density, weight, tightness factor, thickness factor, elastica factor and stitch density of the fabric and the results show that significantly they differ. The results show that the higher the stitch length the more loose the loops hence the structure of the fabric and the shorter the stitch length the tighter or compact the fabric is.

Develop and Compare New Software Based on "Lord" Equations to Calculate Fineness and Maturity Parameters by Using "HVI" Instrument

Abeer S Arafa

DOI: 10.4172/2165-8064.1000178

This present study was conducted to explore the possibility of utilizing the data of the “HVI” instrument to estimate the fiber fineness and maturity parameters of Egyptian cotton, corresponding to the same parameters provided by both of “Micro-mat” instrument and Image Analyzer. 15 of Egyptian genotypes produced by Cotton Research Institute, Giza, Egypt, as well as two of Upland cotton samples from Sudan were used in this study during the 2012 season. The samples were tested by using the HVI, Micro-mat and the Image Analyzer instruments. Data of the degree of thickening, area of secondary cell wall, and perimeter showed that no significant difference between its means, excellent correlation and determining factor between both of the Image analysis data and the data extracted from the equation used for HVI software. Thus, it could easy to add new characters to the HVI output data and simulate both of the Micro-mat and Image analyzer instruments successfully. This equation will save time, efforts, labors and energy.
