Major advances in anti-leukemic treatment have increased a significant number of pediatric cancer survivors over the past few decades. Such treatment in children is also reported to cause abnormal dentofacial development including a significant mandibular hypoplasia, dental anomalies, and severely short-rooted dentition. These problems, despite a becoming both functional and psychosocial problems, are often neglected as many clinician’s lack experience in managing them. They are exacerbated by the fact that orthodontic treatments can potentially cause further root shortening. Therefore, a special consideration to minimize a risk of root resorption must be given when an orthodontic treatment plan is formulated for these patients. We report a unique treatment approach employed on a 14-year-old male patient with severe dentofacial abnormalities secondary to anti-leukemic treatment. Treatment goals were to correct dental malocclusion, optimize facial balance, and also prevent further root shortening. A treatment plan combining orthodontics, orthognathic surgery, and use of temporary anchorage devices, was developed so that light orthodontic forces could be used throughout the course of treatment. Consequently, the lighter force reduced the risk of potential root resorption. The final outcome demonstrates that the surgical-orthodontic approach optimizes facial and occlusal changes while minimizing further root resorption.

Facial appearance influences the social acceptance and psychological well-being of an individual. Prosthodontic treatment restores the lost support. Regardless of judgment and technical ability the dentist can place the artificial teeth more correctly if some natural stable landmarks are available to guide. In this study, lateral cephalograms were used to determine the relation of anterior teeth to incisive papilla, mucolabial reflections and A-Pogonion line in dentulous subjects and in complete denture wearers.
The results of this study indicate that within dentulous subjects there is no significant difference in the horizontal or vertical relationship of anterior teeth with various landmarks such as incisive papilla, mucolabial reflections and A-Pog line, irrespective of age group. In complete denture wearer, the dentures which were constructed to esthetic and phonetic sense of dentist, there is not much variation in labiolingual position of anterior teeth, as compared to the natural teeth; however, there was slight increase in the vertical measurement from the denture borders to the tips of maxillary and mandibular incisors.

A 42-year-old man presented with pain and swelling in the left lower back tooth region. He underwent uneventful extraction of impacted tooth 1 year before. There was a well-defined dome shaped swelling of size 1.5 cm × 2.5 cm in the left side posterior alveolar ridge. Lesional aspiration revealed a thick mucus aspirate. Computed tomography revealed significant buccal and lingual cortex destruction with an isodense mass similar in density to adjacent soft tissues was noticed. CECT revealed an ill-defined heterogeneously enhancing soft tissue lesion measuring 1.8 cm × 2 cm, in the left retromolar trigone causing expansion and cortical thinning of the left mandibular ramus. Incisional biopsy of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of the lesion as MEC of mandible. To date, only one case series and two case reports have focused strictly on the diagnostic imaging characteristics of IMC. This case report focuses on the diagnostic imaging characteristics of IMC.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare neoplasm that mostly occurs as a pleural or serosal tumor. The present study reports a 28-year-old man who presented to the hospital with a 10-year old history of a painless mass in the tongue that he noticed after a tongue bite. He was suspected with a benign tumor, and an excisional biopsy was performed under general anesthesia. The histopathological examination of the specimen confirmed SFT. The patient’s condition was well and free of disease at 12 months after the surgery. In this present case study, we concluded that SFT may be considered as a differential diagnosis of soft tissue tumors in the oral cavity.
