A major interest lies in devising methods to attenuate vascular injury and tissue inflammation in the lung that lead to acute lung injury. Dr. Fowler has just completed a multi-center National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute supported trial using high dosage intravenous vitamin C in critically ill septic patients who developed acute lung injury and the more severe form of injury Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
