Dr. Bilqees Bano is an active member of the department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, A. M. U., Aligarh. She obtained her M. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees from this university in Biochemistry. She has an excellent academic record and has been a recipient of prestigious merit scholarships and gold medal (at undergraduate and graduate levels). She has received several fellowships (at pre-Ph. D. level from CSIR- JRF, SRF; at post-Ph. D. level from CSIR- PDF Award and Pool Officer Fellowship; Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship-UK; Indo-US Fulbright fellowship-U.S.A.; NIH Fellowship Award- U.S.A.). Prof. Bano has 28 years of teaching experience in various under graduate and post graduate biochemistry courses. Moreover, she has 34 years research experience in the fields of proteins, enzymes and clinical biochemistry. She has supervised 20 Ph. Ds, 2 M. Phils, 6 M. Ds and 36 M. Sc. Biochemistry projects and co-supervised 2 Ph. Ds.
Prof. Bano's current interest is in cysteine proteinase inhibitors with particular reference to their amyloid formation and anti-amyloidogenic agents. She has published 48 papers in high impact factor journals (Amino Acids, Mol Biol Rep, Biopol, JAFC, Neurochem Res., J Fluor., Eur. Biophys J., etc.) with a mean impact factor
of 2.8. She has authored several popular science articles and has been conferred with a National award for popularization of science by Govt. of India (2011). She has also published a book on "Diagnostic techniques for myocardial infarction: based on plasma lipoproteins" (Narosa Publishing House) and co-authored a chapter in a book on cystatins (Nova Publishers, U. S. A.). She is a recipient of several research schemes in Biochemistry from UGC, CSIR, ICMR. She has presented papers in various national and international
conferences and received several best paper awards. She is the member several scientific societies (ACS; SBC; TWOS). She also had been a member of the National and International organizing committee of the International Conference of Molecular Physics of non-equilibrium system, Moscow, Russia.
