Elena Volokhina received her MSc degree in biology from the University of Amsterdam in 2003 and PhD degree from Utrecht University in 2009. Her PhD project was focused on biogenesis of outer membrane proteins in Neisseria meningitidis, a common pathogen that causes meningitis. After successful thesis defense six years ago, she joined the research group of the Pediatric Nephrology Department of Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
