The department also trains graduates at the PhD level in Genetics, Ethnobotany, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Plant Taxonomy, Ecologyand Developmental Botany.The Department of Plant Sciences has external links with Kigali Institute of Science and Technology, Makerere University, MasindeMuliro University, Smallholder farmers in Lake Victoria Basin and Eastern Kenya , Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS), Nature Kenya and the and National Museum of Kenya.
