  Myocardial Infarction in Young Black African in Burkina Faso: Epidemiological and Therapeutic Aspects

  Background: The purpose of this study was to assess epidemiological, clinical, and follow up data in a series of 15 patients consecutively admitted for Myocardial Infarction. Patients were black African and less than 45 years old. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study from January 1st 2010 to December 31st 2012 in the Yalgado Ouedraogo University Hospital in Burkina Faso. We assessed medical records of young patients less than 45 years of age who were consecutively admitted for Myocardial Infarction. Results: A total of 15 young subjects were admitted for myocardial infarction during the study period. Sex ratio was 2.75 for males; mean age was 35 ± 8 years with extremes of 21 and 45 years. Three main cardiovascular risk factors were noticed including hypertension (33.3%), diabetes and smoking (26.7%). Metabolic syndrome was found in three patients (20%). Revealing symptom.. Read More»
