Biography

Dr Hitt Sharma is a Medical doctor from the University of Pune. After completing MBBS in 1998, he did an Industry Diploma in Clinical Trials and Contract Research and later, Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in International Business. Currently, he/she is working as an Additional Director, in the Medical Affairs Department at Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd, Pune (India), which is one of the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines, exporting vaccines through WHO, UNICEF, PAHO to more than 140 countries, worldwide. He is an expert on vaccine clinical trials and is responsible for organizing and monitoring clinical trials. He has successfully undertaken numerous vaccine research projects including projects on anti-rabies vaccines, MMR, DPT, BCG, Hepatitis-B, Haemophilus influenzae type b & various pediatric combination vaccines including liquid pentavalent and quadravalent vaccine. His research also includes a herbal drug (Pygeum africanum) for treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and intravesical BCG for treatment of patients with non muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Dr. Sharma has pioneered methods for the design, implementation, and evaluation of effectiveness in clinical trials of newer vaccines. He has to his credit one of the largest clinical trial with MMR Vaccine wherein he organized and monitored the study on 450,000 children in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Population, Cairo, Egypt. He is a Life Member of various scientific societies in India and abroad. He is also on the Editorial board of several reputed International journals like Journal of Infectious Diseases and Therapeutics, Journal of Vaccines and Immunology, Journal of HIV for Clinical and Scientific Research, Global Journal of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Research, International Journal of Pharmaceutical Science, etc. and is an Expert Reviewer for journals like Vaccine, Human Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics, Journal of Virology, to name a few. He have authored more than 30 research articles/ books on Vaccines and related topics.
