Karin Katajaluoto's nurse with specialist nurse education to children nurse. She first worked as a pediatric nurse at the pediatric oncology department of the University Children's Hospital in Uppsala and then at the Child and Youth Health Clinic at Ryhov hospitals in Jönköping. Her doctoral dissertation from Linköping University in 1997, describes the lives of children and young people with cancer and their parents.
After the public defense, she worked for about five years as a clinical lecturer at the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences and at the Child and Youth Health Clinic at Ryhov hospitals in Jönköping. Since 2002 she has been employed as a lecturer and then associate professor (2007) at the School of Health Sciences. She was appointed Professor of Nursing at the School of Health Sciences in August 2011.
The last 15 years, her research has mainly touched on various aspects of the care of children and their families. In particular, research has focused children with cancer and in other persistent ohälsotillstånd. Along with a number of colleagues and graduate students, she has also conducted research involving pain and pain management in children and child and school health care. She is active as a supervisor for several PhD students and has had numerous articles published in peer reviewed journals. She is often engaged as reviewers of examining committees, expert missions, review of manuscripts for journals and other researchers' applications. She has also, in collaboration with the Children's Cancer built up a national training for nurses in pediatric cancer activity.
