    Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in Cirrhotic Patients

    Background: Cholelithiasis is very common in cirrhotic patients (15-30%), occurring 1 to 3 times more often than in general population. The presence of cirrhosis, hepatocellular failure and/or portal hypertension increases the risk of postoperative complications in any type of surgery, especially biliary. Methods: A review of the literature over the last 8 years (2005-2013) was performed by searching the Medline database using the following keywords “Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy” and “cirrhosis”. We selected 11 studies that were considered well-documented and contained comparable data.
