His field of research involves the chemical treatment of gypsum plasterboard waste to remove its fluoride content. He and his colleagues have devised a field test suitable for industrial sites that analyses the chemical content of gypsum waste. The above work has been adopted commercially by Japanese companies as a basis for treating and testing their plasterboard waste. His work has moved on to examine how the European Union controls and recycles gypsum plasterboard materials. He had meetings with Gordon Boyd of SERC who specializes in Waste management and Dr. Julie-Anne Hanna of Questor.
