My research interest focuses on the following three main directions. 1) Developing effective anti-tumor immunotherapeutic regimen: Both preclinical and clinical studies showed that although combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy is a promising anti-cancer treatment regimen, its capability to cure cancer is limited. Our research focuses on developing novel strategies to maximize the anti-tumor effects of T cells by targeting their function in vitro and in vivo. 2) Modulation of immune cells using from natural products: I have been using active ingredients from several natural products to increases the anti-diabetic functions of immune cells. Most of these products possess anti-oxidant effects as well as direct anti-cancer effects. We are analyzing the mechanisms behind the beneficial effects of these agents and how to optimize their effects. 3) Photobiology: Although decades have elapsed, researchers still debate the benefits and hazards of solar ultraviolet radiation exposure. My work highlights the impact of the different mutagenic effects of solar ultraviolet radiation along with the cellular and carcinogenic challenges with respect to sun exposure.
