Pierre-Marie Girard, MD, PhD, is currently professor of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine and Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire St Antoine, Paris, and University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI, France and president of Institut de Médecine et Epidémiologie Appliquée, (IMEA) Fondation Internationale Léon Mba, Paris. Within the field of HIV research, his main interests initially included clinical research in treatment and prophylaxis of AIDS related opportunistic infections.
