  Purpose: The Institute for Safe Medication Practices has published numerous safety alerts in regards to institutional insulin pen use focused on the misuse of insulin pens and subsequent transmission of infections. Other institutions may use floor-stock insulin; however, The Joint Commission has provided recent guidance against using multiuse vials on multiple patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate Bronson Healthcare Group’s different methods of insulin administration to determine a cost-effective strategy while meeting regulatory requirements.
