Showkat Ali Zargar

Biography

rof (Dr) Showkat Ali Zargar is the Director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar and Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of Jammu & Kashmir State. A renowned gastroenterologist, Dr Showkat Ali Zargar, did his MBBS from Government Medical College Srinagar in 1976 and MD (General Medicine) in 1981 from the same institution. Dr Zargar did his DM in gastroenterology from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh in 1988. He started his career as a Registrar in GMC’s Department of Medicine in 1981 and later joined the Institute as Senior Resident the same year. Subsequently, Dr Showkat rose to the post of Head of the Department Gastroenterology in 1998 and has been working on the post till he was appointed Director SKIMS in June 2011.
