Biography
She has worked with non-coding hsr omega gene in Drosophila melanogaster, which provides a dynamic sink for heterogeneous nuclear RNA binding proteins. I could show that over expression of the fly hsr omega-n transcripts, dominantly enhance the neurodegeneration caused by expression of expanded poly Q proteins (Sengupta and Lakhotia, 2006). In my Post doctoral tenure, I have worked with Malin and Laforin, proteins defective in Lafora`s disease. Using cellular models, I could demonstrate that these two proteins, interact with HSF1 (Heat shock factor 1) and this complex is required for full protection against heat-shock-induced cell death.
