  Fundus imaging plays a critical role in diagnosing and monitoring various retinal and systemic diseases. Traditional fundus cameras are often bulky and require precise alignment for accurate imaging. This mini-review explores recent advancements in compact fundus optical systems utilizing aspheric imaging and non-coaxial illumination. We delve into the technological principles, advantages over conventional systems, clinical applications, challenges, and future prospects of these innovative imaging devices.
