Dr Lobontiu is an experienced general surgeon, specialized in robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery. His area of expertise is upper GI surgery. He is an experienced executive in the medical device industry and clinical research.
He has more than 22 years experience in surgical practice and 20 years experience in the medical device industry. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES), elected member of American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and a member of the French Surgery Association (AFC).
Prior to joining the Medical Department of EndoGastric Solutions in the United States, Dr. Lobontiu was based in Paris, France for 18 years where he managed the European business at EndoGastric Solutions. To date, he has performed or proctored over 1,000 TransOral Incisionless Fundoplications, recognized as the worlds most experienced surgeon in this procedure.
From 1999-2005 he was Medical Director at Intuitive Surgical Europe (NASDAQ - ISRG) where he introduced the company\\\\s revolutionary technology to Europe, obtained CE mark before FDA approval and initiated the world\\\\s first robotic surgical procedures. His career also includes research management roles in pharmaceutical companies such as Schering AG in Berlin, Germany.
He practiced surgery at Henri Mondor University Hospital in Paris, France.
Internationally published and an invited speaker at international conferences and congresses, Dr. Lobontiu earned his MD from the University of Medicine Targu-Mures University Medical School, Romania and his Degree in Surgery from Pierre et Marie Curie University of Medicine in Paris, France. In 2012 he obtained the Effective Use of Power Certificate of Stanford Executive Program from Stanford Graduate School of Business, California, United States of America.
