Akiko Kondo was born in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. She received Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1994 from Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan, Master of Science in Nursing in 2004 from University of Tokyo, Japan and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science in 2008 from University of Washington, United States. She experienced as a clinical nurse in internal medicine unit and ICU in acute care hospitals for 8 years. Since she obtained her PhD degree, she has been an assistant professor for half a year and an associate professor for 3 years at Department of Nursing, Collage of Life and Health Sciences, Chubu University, Aichi-ken, Japan. Her areas of research interest are effect of shortening length of stay on patient outcome and costs, and developing nursing care and health care system that enhance patient recovery from injury or illness. Her main study population is patients after hip fracture.
