Aslı S. ÇıÄà ¸gın, Ph.D., received her B.S. in Environmental Engineering in 2002 and her Ph.D. in Environmental Biotechnology Program in 2011 from Environmental Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University (Turkey). During her years as a graduate student, she was involved in projects supported within the European Union 6th Framework Program. Doctorate studies of her focused on the fundamentals study on the design, operation and modelling of wastewater treatment plants, particularly on the effect of bacterial response on the treatment performance. She also worked as visitor researcher at the La Sapienza University of Rome (Italy) within the scope of International Doctoral Research Fellowship Program of The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Her time is now divided between teaching graduate students and doing applied research on the environmental biotechnology (activated sludge modelling, biological nutrient removal), industrial pollution control and modelling as a senior researcher at the Istanbul Technical University.
