Biography

Benny Abraham Kaipparettu major research interest of Dr. Kaipparettu is in breast cancer stem cells (His publications before 2006 was with the name Abraham BK due to official name change). After bachelor and master degree in pharmacy, Dr. Kaipparettu continued his career in pharmacogenomics and obtained PhD in Pharmacology for his research in CYP2D6 polymorphism. During his first postdoctoral fellowship in Germany, Dr. Kaipparettu focused on pharmacogenomics in breast cancer. In 2003 when initial reports about putative breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) published, he investigated its clinical significance in breast tumors and published one of the first studies on the clinical significance of BCSCs. His observations suggested the relevance of BCSCs in distant metastasis. The findings in his publication were further verified by several other research groups and extensively cited in other cancer stem cell publications. Later he moved to Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, USA and continued his work on the regulation of cancer stem cell markers by hormone receptors and its epigenetic silencing. Mean time, he also focused on the higher order regulation of clustered genes by scaffold proteins and the development of economic technologies for three dimensional (3D) cell culture. In 2009 Dr Kaipparettu was promoted as a Junior Faculty in Baylor College of Medicine and in 2010 he has became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, Baylor College of Medicine.

Tumour initiating cells, Mitochondrial Nuclear Cross talk in Cancer, Cancer epigenetics,  Pharmacogenomics, Epigenetics and energy regulation in breast tumor initiating cells.
