Dr. Bonnie L Firestein is an Associate Professor of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics, Full Graduate Faculty Member in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. She completed her BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan in 1988. She received a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California San Diego in 1995. She performed postdoctoral work at the University of California, San Francisco 1995-2000. She was a 2008 NARSAD Toulmin Independent Investigator. She was a 2009 American Heart Association Researcher of the Month. She serves on the editorial boards of the Open Neuroscience Journal, The Journal of Neuroscience, Developmental Neuroscience and Journal of Tissue Science Engineering. She reviews manuscripts from over 20 journals and has published approximately 50 peerreviewed articles and two book chapters.
Her research focuses on Effects of Substrate Stiffness on Cellular Morphology, Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, Neurodegeneration and Neuroprotection, Cytoskeleton and Cytoskeletal Dynamics and Image Processing.
