Biography

Dr. Brian K. Via is an Assistant Professor within the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences and holds a Joint Appointment in the Department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University. He is an active member of the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts where he collaborates with other disciplines to characterize biomaterials, chemicals, and potential waste streams. Before joining Auburn University. Dr. Via worked as a scientist in wood and biocomposite and pulp and paper manufacturing where he utilized analytical tools to characterize both the material and the waste streams from the process. Dr. Via received his Ph.D. in the Agricultural and Mechanical College at Louisiana State University where he specialized in Chemometric modeling coupled with Near Infrared Spectroscopy for wood chemistry, mechanical, and physical properties. He is the author/co-author of 25 peer reviewed publications. His current research interests and goals are to develop and characterize sustainable based biocomposites and its ingredients which could originate from co-products and waste streams from a bioenergy manufacturing process.
