Dr. Catherine Johnson attained her PhD at the Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto in 2003. Previous to that she worked as a librarian in the Toronto Public Library System for nine years. she was on faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for four years before joining the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario in 2007. She has conducted research into the effect of social capital on information seeking behaviour and the relationship between library use and social capital building. She is also interested in information access in developing countries. She is currently developing a new area of research interest – the effect of social media on access to archival materials.
