Cheng Yu is an associate professor and program coordinator in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. He received his BS in Civil Engineering from Tsinghua University. Both his MS and PhD were earned from the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Yu’s research interests include thin-walled structures, structural stability, coldformed steel, steel structures, earthquake engineering, and building information modeling. Dr. Yu is an active committee member of the American Iron and Steel Institute which develops the North American Cold-Formed Steel Specifications and Standards. Dr Yu’s research has been funded by federal agencies, professional associations, and the industries. In 2010, Dr. Yu received a 5-year Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award from the U.S. National Science Foundation to support his research on cold-formed steel shear walls.
