Dr. Chitra Lal is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She has board certifications in Internal medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep medicine. Dr. Lal’s special areas of interest include Sleep disorders and Sarcoidosis and she runs speciality clinics in these areas at MUSC. Dr. Lal has several peer reviewed publications in different areas including in the field of Pulmonary Vascular disease. She has a passion for teaching and scientific endeavours and discovery and hopes to further these goals through her research and publications. Dr. Lal has been recognized for her clinical expertise through inclusion in the “Guide to America’s Top Physicians”, Consumer’s Research Council of America, for 3 consecutive years (2009, 2010, 2011). Dr. Lal is a Fellow of 3 prestigious organizations, that is, ACCP (American College of Chest physicians), ACP ( American College of Physicians) and AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine).
Dr. Lal’s current research areas include NIH funded study on the long term use of oxygen in COPD and a phase-2 trial of Ustekinumab and Golimumab in chronic sarcoidosis. Dr. Lal also has a special interest in the impact of obstructive sleep apnea on neurocognitive function.
