Biography

Constantinos Giaginis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1979. He received a Chemistry degree from the Department of Chemistry, University of Athens, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, University of Athens, and a second Ph.D. degree from the Medical School, University of Athens. He is an Assistant Professor in the field of Human Physiology in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of the Aegean, Greece. His research focuses on the fields of human physiology and pathophysiology, medicinal chemistry and toxicology. His research focuses on the clinical evaluation of new biomarkers and molecular mediators in several pathophysiological disease states, such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, and cancer. His research interest also includes the development of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) and quantitative structure-property relationships (QSPRs) in the area of pharmacology and toxicology. Furthermore, his research interest lies in the assessment of physicochemical properties, such as lipophilicity, solubility, and ionization of drugs, natural bioactive compounds and toxic compounds in relation with their biological activity or toxicity, as well as their Absorption/Distribution/Metabolism/Excretion (ADME) parameters and their pharmacokinetic and toxicokinetic profile. He has currently published ~100 peer reviewed journal and conference papers.

Research Interest

• Evaluation and clinical significance of biological markers, molecular mediators and receptors implicated in pathophysiological states and especially in cancer and atherosclerosis. • Nuclear receptors and human metabolism and disease. • Physiology and pathophysiology of adipose tissue. • Nutrition and cancer. • Quantitative Structure-Activity/Property Relationships (QSAR/QSPR): investigation of the biological activity and/or toxicity of drugs, xenobiotics and bioactive food ingredients. • Physicochemical properties, absorption and bioavailability of drugs, toxic compounds and bioactive food ingredients.
