David Vondrys

David graduated in 1993 with a M.D. from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. He accomplished a general surgery training at Motol University Hospital in Prague, the only hospital with a lung transplant programme in Czech Republic. After a cardiac surgery training in Leipzig, Germany he took the position of Consultant Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Linz, Austria in 2004. In 2009 he joined The National Service for Severe Tracheal Disease in Children at The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and since July 2011, he is back in Austria as a Head of Congenital Cardiothoracic Service at Medical University in Innsbruck.
David initiated and encouraged the use of biodegradable tracheal/bronchial stents at GOSH. He was involved in biodegradable stenting of the first paediatric patient with tracheal transplant. He reported the 5 year follow-up of biodegradable bronchial stents in adult patients after lung transplantation and his first report of biodegradable airway stents in children is in press (June 2011). Currently he works on animal and clinical international multi-center study for biodegradable airway stents and stemm cell based tissue engineered airway constructs.
