Professor Dawen Gao got his PhD (2003) and MPhil (2000) degrees from Harbin Institute of Technology, after receiving his BSc (1991) from Qiqihaer Normal College. Then he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University and as a visiting scholar at Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Stanford University. He was Associate Professor and Professor at School of Forestry, Northeast Forestry University from 2003 to 2007 and joined Harbin Institute of Technology as a professor from 2007. The focus of his research and teaching has been in environmental science and engineering, and the control of environmental contaminations. He won a few awards, including 2 Heilongjiang Province Science & Technology Awards (2008, 2011), Heilongjiang Province Excellent Youth Award (2005), New Century Excellent Talent Award (2005), and China Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award (2005). He has published two books and 80 papers.
