Dr. Debbie A. Owens is an Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Journalism and Communications at Murray State University where she coordinates internships and instructs classes in electronic newsgathering and reporting, script writing, and mass communication. Dr. Owens conducts seminars on international mass communication and on media, culture, and race, gender in broadcasting. She has taught special topics course on British media, the Civil Rights Movement and the press, and on women in broadcasting. She has worked at MSU since 2002.
Her research interests include mass media and social construction, analysis of race, ethnicity and culture in media, and portrayals of gender and aging.
