Dr. Yvonne Oligschläger was born on December 6, 1987, in Velsen, the Netherlands. From 2006 to 2009, she studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht (the Netherlands), during which she worked at the department of Cancer Genetics, Università degli Studi di Turino (Candiolo, Italy). From 2009 to 2011, she studied her Master’s degree at Maastricht University, during which she worked at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. In September 2011, she started her PhD at Maastricht University, department of Molecular Genetics, with Dr. Neumann and Prof. Glatz, where she studied the physiological role of the key metabolic enzyme AMP-activated protein kinase in the context of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. During this period, she presented her work at several national and international conferences. In 2013, she received the Best Oral Presentation at the 1st European AMPK Workshop, and in 2014, she was awarded an Early Investigator Commendation by the Society for Heart and Vascular Metabolism. In October 2015, she joined the group of Prof. Ronit Shiri-Sverdlov, where she is performing high-quality translational research in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. She is also actively involved in both management and educational tasks, including manuscript and grant writing, (animal) ethical committee approval writing, organization of the 2nd European Fatty Liver Conference 2018, student mentoring, tutoring and supervision, and co-coordination of a course in Bachelor Biomedical sciences. Furthermore, she was recently awarded a Young Talent Program Fellowship.
