Tsokos received his medical degree and his doctor of sciences degree in biostatistics from the National University of Athens in Athens Greece where he also did resident training in internal medicine Additionally he did resident training in internal medicine at the Combined Veterans Administration Medical Center Georgetown University Program in Washington DC and was a Fogarty International Center Fellow with the Arthritis and Rheumatism Branch National Institute of Arthritis Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda MD Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a major patient care teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School and ranks third in National Institutes of Health funding among independent hospitals nationwide BIDMC is clinically affiliated with the Joslin Diabetes Center and is a founding member of the DanaFarber/Harvard Cancer Center BIDMC is the official hospital of the Boston Red Sox.
His research interest lies in the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of SLE and mechanisms that lead to tissue injury. He also consult on patient care involving complex systemic autoimmune diseases.
