Biography

Dr. Hadjigeorgiou is a Professor of Neurology and a research neuroscientist of the Department of Neurology in the Faculty of Medicine of University of Thessaly, Greece. He graduated School of Medicine (MD), National & Kapodistrian University of Athens where he also got my Doctoral degree (both degrees with excellence). His postdoctoral training includes post-doctoral research fellowships in University of Milano, and Columbia University, New York in the field of genetics of metabolic myopathies and mitochondrial encephalomyopathies. Larissa, Nov. 2012.

After his return in Greece in 2000 (Lecturer in Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Thessaly) He contributed significantly to the establishment of the Laboratory of Neurogenetics, Bioscience Unit, University of Thessaly and basically was a Greek pioneer in genetic epidemiological studies (mainly in the field of genetic association studies) in neurological diseases. Dr. Hadjigeorgiou research activity includes > 110 PubMed publications (Impact Factor >500) and this activity has been recognized in > 2200 citations (h-index=26). He collaborate with almost all Medical Departments in Greece and with leading research centers and study groups abroad (NIH / NIA, Columbia NY, Max-Planck Institute Munich, GEO-PD, EURLSSG, etc).

Dr. Hadjigeorgiou research Group is working for the last 10 years in the field of genetic epidemiology of Movement Disorders, Neurodegenerative Diseases and other Neurological Disorders (including Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Restless Legs Syndrome, etc). Our group is an active member of the genetic epidemiology consortium of Parkinson’s disease (GEO-PD) and the European Restless Legs Study Group (EURLSSG). He is responsible for the Laboratory of Neurogenetics in the Department of Neurology where my group performed many genetic association studies in Neurodegenerative Diseases.
