Herbert W. Ockerman is research scientist in the area of food chemistry and muscle biology, he has been a professor at The Ohio State University Department of Animal Science since 1961. He received a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in 1962. He has been major professor for 85 graduate students, 79 of them international students from 28 different counties and supervised 30 professors, as well as numerous scholars visiting from other countries. He organized the first university meat study tour of Western Europe. Although his background is in the meat and food science disciplines, he is recognized as a leader in international education and collaborative research in many other areas of agriculture.
