Biography

Dr Qasem, a Professor of Weed Science (Weed Ecophysiology) at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan. His studies included the Bacholar of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Agricultural Sciences from Aleppo University, Syria in 1976, and the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Weed Science, Department of Plant Production and Protection, Facuty of Agriculture, University of Jordan in 1982, and Doctor of Phylosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Plant Physiology/ Weed Science, Department of Biological Sciences, Wye Collage, Univrsity of London, UK. in 1987.
Dr Qasem main duties include planning and conduction of scientific research (Basic and Applied) and teaching in the fields of Weed Science, Plant Physiology and Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. Dr. Qasem is an author of more than 130 research paper and book chapters published in refereed international journals and scientific books. He is an author of four textbooks, Plant Science, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Weeds and their Control and Weeds and their Control (practical). He contributed in many reigonal and world congresses, and has more than 50 scientific research reports and paper abstracts. Dr Qasem supervised and directed thesis work for many graduate students, and contributed as an examiner for many in Jordan and abroad. He is an awardy of the Shoman Foundation Prize for Youth Arab Researchers in Agricultural Science for the year 1992, Hisham Hijjawi Award in Agriculture and Water in 1996, Fulbright Award for Scholar Exchange 1999, earned One-Year Seniority in Rank and Salary, University of Jordan for his outstanding scientific research achievements and teaching excellence in 1997, University of Jordan Prize for the Best and Outstanding Academic Book in Applied Sciences in 2004, Agricultural Engineers Association Prize in Publication, Scientific Research and Extension, 2006, and the Distiquished Researcher Prize

in Agricultural Sciences (for research work 2000-2010), Ministry of Higher Education and Academic Research, Amman, Jordan in 2010. Dr Qasem is a founder of the International Allelopathy Society (IAS), Asian Allelopathy Society and Near East Weed Science Society, a life member of the International Weed Science Society (IWSS), member of the Weed Science Society Japan, International Parasitic Weed Society, the Arab Society for Plant Protection and EWRS Working Group/ Weed Management in Irrigated Vegetables. He is an editor on 30 international journals. Dr Qasem invited and traveled to present his work over the globe.
