Jérome Guicheux received his B.S. degree in cell biology and physiopathology from the University of Nantes (France) in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Biomaterials, cell biology and health sciences from the University of Nantes in 1997. He is currently a Research Director/professor at INSERM and was an associated-Professor at the national veterinary school of Nantes (2006-2010). He is the deputy director of the INSERM research Lab U791 (LIOAD, centre for osteoarticular and dental tissue engineering, Nantes, France, 81 staff members) and head of the STEP (Skeletal Tissue Engineering and Physiopathology) group (32 staff members). He is also the deputy director of the UMS INSERM/FED 4203 François Bonamy Health Federative Research Institute (ex-IFR26; 900 staff members).
He is a member of the board of directors and adjunct tresory of the French society of mineralized tissue biology and a member of the steering committee of the French group for tissue engineering.He serves on the scientific board of the Courtin-arthritis Foundation, the French institute for odontological research and the Nantes school of dental surgery.
He is author or co-author of more than 110 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 7 patents and 51 invited lectures.
His research interests include skletetal biology and engineering with a special focus on the development of stem cells- and biomaterials-based therapies for the repair of osteoarticular tissues including bone, cartilage and intervertebral disc.
