Biography

Dr. Jianping Zhao is currently a research scientist at the National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR), School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi. He received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Nanjing University of Science & Technology, a MS degree in Analytical Chemistry from East China University of Science & Technology, and a PhD in Pharmacognosy from the School of Pharmacy at University of Mississippi.
Dr. Zhao has extensive experience in isolation, purification and structural identification of natural products of medical importance. In particular he has focused on using metabolomics technology to validate and characterize the properties of botanicals/herbs that are traditionally used in alternative, complementary and integrative healthcare systems. He has also studied the quality and safety of natural products that are used as dietary supplements, functional foods or nutraceuticals.
He is a member of American Society of Pharmacognosy and Sigma Xi, and has served as reviewer for several international scientific journals.

Natural products chemistry, isolation and structure elucidation of bioactive/marker compounds.
Chemical profiling, fingerprinting, and LC/MS and NMR-based metabolomics of botanicals .
Authentication, standardization and quality control of natural health products.
