Dr. Johannes Schwartzkopff, MD received his medical degree from the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany. He is currently director of the Cornea Laboratory as well as a specialist for ophthalmology at the University Eye Hospital Freiburg with a clinical focus on corneal and external eye diseases. Between 1999 and 2002 he was trained in tumor and T cell immunology in the group of Hanspeter Pircher at the Dept. of Immunology at the Institute for Medical Microbiology in Freiburg where he finished his thesis on experimental tumor immunology. In 2003, he performed a research fellowship in ocular immunology in the laboratory of J Wayne Streilein at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. Since 2005, he has been working as principle investigator of various experimental projects analyzing immune mechanisms and its treatment following corneal transplantation.
