Jonathan Y Chen
Professor, Director of Renewable Fiber and Composite Laboratory
The University of Texas at Austin, USA
Dr. Chen earned his Ph.D. from the University of Leeds, England, in 1995. He is a professor in the program of Textiles and Apparel in the School of Human Ecology and the science and engineering program in the Texas Materials Institute, at The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining UT Austin, he was a professor in the Louisiana State University. Dr. Chen’s major research focuses are on the development of renewable fibers and fiber composite materials from natural resources. His current research projects include production and evaluation of regenerated cellulose/nanoparticle polymers and fibers, biobased auto interior fiber composites, and activated carbon fiber materials with diverse end uses in functional human clothing systems, medical systems, and environmental systems. Dr. Chen is a member of Bio-Environmental Polymer Society (BEPS), and member of Textile Institute (TI).
