Dr. José Hernández-Rodríguez is devoted to vasculitis since 1997, when he started to work at the Vasculitis Research Unit (Hospital Clínic of Barcelona), directed by Dr. Maria C. Cid. He got his PhD thesis in the field of giant cell arteritis. After becoming staff member of his hospital in 2002, Dr Hernández-Rodríguez completed a two-years fellowship in vasculitis at the Center for Vasculitis Care and Research at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OH). Under the mentoring of Dr Gary S. Hoffman, he developed a research project about "Single-organ vasculitis". Since he is back in Barcelona in 2008, he is consultant in the Department of Autoimmune Diseases, where he is taking care of patients with vasculitis, participating in clinical trials and has also created a Clinical Unit for adult patients with autoinflammatory diseases. Dr. Hernández-Rodríguez is associate professor at the University of Barcelona and author of numerous book chapters and scientific publications.
