Joseph Gary Bellon is a Senior Lecturer in the Communication Department at Georgia State University, where he is also Director of Debate. He received his B.A. from Emory University, his MA from Wake Forest University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. He teaches classes on many subjects, including media, political communication, rhetoric, debate, and terrorism. His work has been published in Argumentation & Advocacy and Critical Studies in Mass Communication. Dr. Bellon is the primary author of The Policy Debate Manual, a text for beginning debaters that has been distributed to tens of thousands of students across the country. He has coached debate teams to the elimination rounds of the National Debate Tournament at four different universities, including GSU. He is currently writing a debate and argumentation textbook.
His research interests are extremist rhetoric, social movements, and the intersection of politics and popular culture.
