Juan Pou
Professor, Applied Physics Departments
University of Vigo, Spain
Juan Pou (Ind.Eng., MSc., Ph.D.) holds a chair of Applied Physics at the University of Vigo (northwestern Spain). Director of the Research Center for Advanced Industrial Technologies and Processes and dean of the Faculty of Engineering also in Vigo. Since 1992 he has been working with bioceramics. His research group has developed laser-assisted applications of bioceramics such as calcium phosphate and bioglass coatings for metallic implants, rapid prototyping production of 3D bioceramic implants, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles by laser ablation, production of HA/TCP from fish bones, or scaffolds made of bioglass nanofibers produced by laser spinning, a technique invented by his group. He is author or co-author of more than 100 papers in scientific journals (peer reviewed), 150 conference papers, and has been awarded 15 patents. He currently collaborates with a score of international scientific journals with different duties.
