Julie joined the Duke faculty in 1980 after receiving her M.S. and Ph.D. from Carnegie-Mellon University and her B.A. in mathematics from The University of Nebraska-Omaha. Professor Britton’s publications include the book, Emotion in Advertising: Theoretical and Practical Explorations, and papers in leading academic journals - "Fishing for Feelings: Hooking Viewers Helps!" Journal of Consumer Psychology, “Elaboration and the Effectiveness of Negatively versus Positively Framed Messages,” Journal of Consumer Research, and "The Information Processing of Coordinated Media Campaigns," Journal of Marketing Research.
My research interests continue to be in consumers’ emotional responses to marketing actions (advertising, service encounters, etc,), structure and content of health communications on people’s compliance with the advocated health behavior, and how to effectively communicate nutritional information in restaurants to encourage healthier eating.
