Biography

Dr. Jyant Kumar is working as a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Prof. Kumar works in the area of limit analysis, finite elements and optimization. He has guided several Doctoral and Master students in the area of Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. Prof. Kumar is in the Editorial Panel of several International Journals primarily in the area of Geomechanics, Civil Engineering, Remote sensing and Optimization. Prof. Kumar has already published more than hundred papers in different International Journals. He has quite a few sponsored funding projects to his credit.

Research Interest

Use of Lower and Upper Bound Limit Analysis with FEM, Method of Characteristics, Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Method. Determination of Dynamic properties of soil and rock samples using Resonant Column, Bender and Extender Elements. In-situ testing of ground, road and airport pavements using spectral analysis of surface waves. Development of the vibration isolations methods to restrict the vibrations. Stability of Slopes, Tunnels & Underground Openings Stability of Reinforced Earth Structures Seismic Response of ground, Design of structures in seismically active zones.
