Kamyar Afshar DO, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Afshar graduated from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and received both his residency training in internal medicine completed fellowship training in pulmonary/critical care medicine from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Afshar is currently the Medical Director of the Pediatric Lung Transplant Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and an active member of the Adult Lung Transplant Program at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. He is also the Associate Medical Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center and serves as a Critical Care Attending in the various medical and surgical ICUs. He is a United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) certified lung transplant pulmonologist, and is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. His clinical experience includes the management of patients with advanced lung and heart-lung disease; the evaluation and selection of candidates for both lung and heart-lung transplantation; and the peri-operative, post-operative and outpatient management of lung and heart-lung transplant recipients and cystic fibrosis patients. He has been an active member of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Thoracic Society and has presented his clinical research at international meetings hosted by these societies.
His research interests focus in the fields on lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis and infection disease.
