Kathleen Cervasio has been a registered professional nurse for over 37 years serving clients in a variety of health care specialties, settings, and institutions. Currently Kathleen Cervasio Is a professor in a school of nursing continuing her professional development through teaching and learning processes, differentiated instruction modalities, publications, and research. Her research interests are geared towards children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. She has developed courses for nursing students to extend their education for this disenfranchised group while staying focused on the core of nursing, the care of clients.
Kathleen Cervasio is particularly interested in the Institute of Medicine report concerning special needs children who continue to be underserved in health care. Specific interest in the QSEN ( quality and safety in nursing education) and KSA ( skills, knowledge, and attitudes) of nursing students and nurses have fueled her research concerning attitudes of healthcare professional towards children with special needs.
